大部分唐宋词没有题目,这些无题词与李商隐的无题诗在作者的创作态度与读者的阐释方式上具有极大的相似性。一方面,作品的题目与作者创作的功利性目的有着密切的关系,而唐宋词和李商隐诗歌则用"无题"的方式否定了这种功利性,从而达到了创作的自由。另一方面,由于"无题"造成了作者创作意图的缺失和模糊,因此扩大了文本的开放空间,使读者的阐释更加自由,形成了对同样的作品众解纷纭的情形。创作的非功利性和阐释的开放性使无题的唐宋词和李商隐的无题诗具有了更深厚的内涵和审美的魅力。
