摘要
本文从贫穷及个体孤独两方面探讨了美国现实主义作家伊迪丝·华顿如何利用自然环境为表现形式决定了《伊坦·弗洛美》中主人公的悲剧命运。
As one of American literature's great tragic love stories,Ethan Frome has a rather simple style. It is set in the rural place rather than a social world Edith Wharton is familiar with.In such a place, the protagonist's life is like being controlled by the harsh environment, nothing is satisfying and all the happiness he longs for is only a vision.Although it is Ethan Frome' s own character flaw that makes his tragic life, the harsh environment should also be responsible, especially poverty and isolation. This paper tries to ex- plore how Ethan Frome is controlled and destroyed by the environment and ends with a tragic life.
