On Basic Principles of Chinese Traditional Family Ethics

在中国传统社会,儒家伦理道德的基本原则乃是封建统治者所大力提倡的“三纲”,而三纲落实在家庭伦理中又具体体现为其中的“二纲”,即父为子纲和夫为妻纲。尽管其自身存在着诸多弊端,近代以来亦备受挞伐,但我们仍要将“二纲”置于其发展演变的社会背景中予以考察和评价,而不能完全忽视其产生的社会作用与存在的合理性。

In Chinese traditional society,the basic principle of the Confucianist ethics morals is 'the three cardinal guides' which the feudal rulers promoted with great effort.But the realization of the three cardinal guides manifests specifically,in the family ethics,for 'two cardinal guides',namely the father is the sub-outline and the husband is the wife outline.Although it itself has many defects,censured a lot,we still have to place the two outlines in the social background to inspect and to evaluate,meanwhile cannot completely neglect the social function it produces and the rationality of its existence.
