千姿百态的开平碉楼为谁设计?如何设计?一直是开平碉楼研究的一个谜,又是必须解决的基础课题之一。通过田野调查、碉楼文书收集与对知情人的采访,可以判定开平碉楼的设计有外国设计师、中国设计师、乡村工匠的贡献,三类设计师的设计各有特点,又存在着相互影响、借鉴的关系。

Who designed the various types of Kaiping diaolou and how did they design them? This question has been a puzzle in the study of Kaiping diaolou and is one of the foundational issues that must be resolved.It can be determined through fieldwork,the study of collected diaolou documents,and interviews of persons in the know that foreign architects,Chinese architects and local rural architects all contributed to the designing of the diaolou.The three categories of architects each had their own characteristics,influenced each other and profited from each other.
