摘要
林语堂先生的<浮生六记>英译本,情感真挚,译笔灵动,优美流畅,流传甚广,为中西文化交流做出了巨大贡献,堪称翻译的典范.但林译也有不足之处.主要有五点:一,风俗内涵的流失;二,意识形态的矛盾;三,历史文化内容的失落;四,度量衡前后不一致;五,语言风格的背离.但林译的"失",有的是不可避免的,有的则是策略性的.
Mr.Lin Yutang's English version of Six Chapters of a Floating Life is full of liquidity and gracefulness and has thus enjoyed great popularity in the English-speaking world,contributing greatly to the exchange between the Chinese and the western cultures.It has set us a striking example of translation.Despite all this,however,there are weak points in his text as follows: 1) loss of some conventional connotation;2) contradiction in ideology;3) absence of historical and cultural content;4) inconsistency in metrology;5) diversion of style from the original.However,some of the loss in Lin's translation are inevitable,while the others are strategic.
