许多词既有字面意义,又有隐喻意义。英语中许多词和词语与汉语中对应的词和词语在隐喻用法上完全一致。但是,由于历史、地域、生活方式、风俗习惯等方面的差别,中国人和英美人对同一事物的思维、理解、看法和说法不尽相同,英汉两种语言不仅有字面意义相同,隐喻意义不同的词和词语的存在,更有为一种语言和文化特有的隐喻存在。

Many words and phrases have both literal and metaphorical meaning.There are many words and phrases whose uses are completely same in English as well as in Chinese.However,because of the differences in history,geography,life styles and customs.People in China and western countries have different ideas and expressions about the same thing.There are not only many words and phrases that have the same literal meaning and different metaphorical meaning but also those have the same metaphorical meaning and different literal meaning.There are also many metaphors that belong to one of these two languages.
