This article focuses on introducing three elements in Harmer's ESA theory.According to the change of these elements' sequence with different arrangements,three kinds of lesson patterns,straight arrows sequence,boomerang sequence,and patchwork sequence,can be designed and practiced in class.The author illustrates the practice of patchwork sequence in her teaching of New College English with particular examples and further proves that this is really an effective and practical lesson pattern in English teaching.
