摘要
霍桑《红字》中女主人公海丝特 .白兰渴望并苦苦追求的个性解放 ,正是作者霍桑所要表达的浪漫主义思想 ,即人生而具有平等、自由和爱的权利。本文通过分析海丝特追求个性解放的矛盾心理揭示了霍桑清教思想的双重性。
The liberation of self that Hester Prynne pursues in the Scarlet Letter reflects Hawthorne's romantic ideas, the rights of seeking for love, equality and freedom. By analyzing the psychological conflicts of the heroine in the process of pursuing liberation of the self, this essay reveals Hawthorne's dubious attitudes towards the Puritanism.
