The degradation of the ecological environment in the southern mountainous areas in Ningxia is chiefly caused by man - made destructions since modern times. The more quickly the population grows, the more quickly the environment deteriorates. Therefore we should have a full realization of the effect that population has on environment. The ecological construction of the southern mountainous areas in Ningxia will undertake posidve development only if we can integrate the restoring of cultivated land to forests with the controlling of population.
