This paper examines Joyce′s short story ″The Dead″. It begins by exploring how Joyce approaches the issue of the Irish nationality from the perspectives of geographical scales and genealogy. Based on this exploration, the paper reveals Joyce′s unique attitude towards the issue and thus concludes that he is a political oriented writer.
