An Analysis of the International Factors Concerning Mao Zedong's Launching of the Great Leap Forward in 1958

本文从国际因素的视角分析了毛泽东选择在 195 8年发动“大跃进”的原因。认为 ,195 6年的苏共二十大和匈牙利事件大大分散了毛泽东对反冒进的注意力 ,使他在随后的两年 ,不得不投入大量精力来维护斯大林的历史地位 ,探索中国的建设道路 ,并防止匈牙利事件在中国重演。随着这些问题的初步解决以及他在 195 7年对国际形势的乐观判断 ,毛泽东才得以集中精力 ,最终决定在 195 8年发动“大跃进”。

This paper analyzes the reason why Mao Zedong chose the year 1958 to launch 'the Great Leap Forward'. We assume that the 20th Congress of the Soviet Communist Party and the Hungarian Event in 1956 greatly distracted Mao's attention from anti-rash-advancement. In the following two years, he had to spend a lot of energy protecting Stalin's historic position, exploring China's construction road, and preventing the repetition of the Hungarian Event in China. With the initial solution of these problems and his optimistic judgment of international situation, Mao managed to concentrate his mind, and eventually decided to launch 'the Great Forward' in 1958.
