中国最早的国际象棋名手当推“百岁棋王”谢侠逊。谢侠逊(1888—1987),名宣,小名卿源。出生于平阳县腾蛟凤巢硐桥头。平阳县隶属温州,自古有棋乡之称,日后也诞生了女子世界冠军诸宸等国手,可见当地棋风昌盛。谢侠逊从小就从父学棋,读书之余,嗜棋如命。一次他偶得古谱《韬略玄机》,如获至宝,随后逐局研究,棋艺大进。
Xie (1888-1987) was the first Chinese known for superb chess skills. He was voted as the chief of the Chinese Chess Command in 1926 and combined with Yang Wenkai to hold then world champion Alexander Alekine to a draw in 1933. In 1935, Xie posted a jaw-dropping record of 18 wins, one draw and one loss to win the Silver Dragon Cup, beating grandmasters from Britain, the United States, Germany and Austria. He later became vice chairman of the Chinese Chess Association.
