对建筑形式的重视和研究从古至今都是建筑理论的主流。功能被忽视日久,直到现代建筑功能主义出现后才真正将功能作为建筑设计的依据和前提。功能开始为建筑师所关注,建筑设计从此打开了新的局面。建筑功能与建筑的形式、空间、技术、生态有着千丝万缕的关系,把功能置于这个关联域中,才能对功能的本质有正确的把握。功能本身又存在着其发展运动的客观规律。其共时性形态为功能分区;历时性形态为功能动线。功能不是静态的,它具有动态特征,包括兼容性、相容性、周期性。
