摘要
从巴斯内特的"文化翻译观"视角,结合具体译例对《红楼梦》两英译本死亡委婉语的翻译策略与方法进行比较与评判,可以看出霍译本比杨译本更注重采用灵活多样的翻译方法尽量重构原文的委婉色彩。就形式而言,杨译本霍译本都与原文有所偏离;但在内容上,霍译本比杨译本更忠实于原文,原因在于霍译本更注重保留原文中死亡委婉语的内涵与特色,在忠实反映原文的信息功能的同时,也注意重构原文的美学功能。
HongLouMeng boasts a great number of death euphemisms.The translation of such culture-loaded words is certainly a big problem.The paper presents an analytical classification and evaluation of different methods used in translating death euphemisms from the perspective of cultural translation theory,with HongLouMeng and its two complete translated versions(Yang Hsien-yi s and Hawkes version) as the body for examination.
