大学的职能是培养人才、发展知识以及用其智力资源为社会服务。大学精神是大学发展的灵魂 ,大学的发展需要大学精神的维系。大学精神主要体现在合理求是、使命导引、学术自由、大学自治和积极应变诸层面。培育大学精神需要时间的积累 ,需要全员的广泛参与 ,需要经得起市场化的冲击 ,需要与时俱进 。

A university's function is to train qualified personnel, to accumulate knowledge and to serve the society with its resource of intelligence. The soul of a university lies in its development and the development needs the spirit of it. Its connotation embodies practical and rational, mission guiding, freedom in academic research, university's autonomy and to adapt to the changing conditions actively etc. To cultivate the spirit of a university needs time, the participation of the whole staff, withstanding the pound of the market, keeping abreast of the times and continually absorbing and enriching it with new connotation.
