在初、盛两唐之交特定的文化语境中,张九龄选择全身持性与兼济 天下兼容互补的价值取向,以守正中和、随缘自适的文化心态面对宦海沉浮。 这种价值取向和文化心态外化为“九龄风度”。张九龄的诗歌是其人生意蕴和 精神风度的艺术凝聚和形象展现。他在陈子昂主张恢复“诗言志”之后,重新 倡导恢复“诗缘情”的传统。他的诗歌创作环譬托谕,随风卷舒,形成委婉深 秀、自然成态之“醇”美。张九龄的价值取向及其诗歌的美学追求直接影响了 盛唐士夫文人的审美理想和诗歌创作。
