徽州,古称新安,因宋徽宗赐名而为徽州。徽州下设黟县、歙县、祁门、绩溪、休宁和婺源(现属江西)六地,散布在黄山南麓,新安江畔。山明水秀的自然景色,符合文人士大夫们的审美情趣,是读书、赋诗、绘画、探友、踏青、隐居的理想风水宝地,有“天马涌泉之胜,犀牛望月之奇,风潆水聚,土厚泉甘,是遗荣访道”

The ancient dwelling houses in local style in Huizhou can be called an architectural museum of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Having important value of history,science,art and culture it was rated as the world cultural heritage by UNESCO.Ancient dwelling houses have a large number of works of art including wood carving,stone carving and brick carving,among which the wood carving is the fine work of “Huizhou science”.This artivle takes several wood carvings as examples to give a preliminary analysis.
