摘要
对历史上儒家孟荀的褒与贬 ,是一理论问题 ,又是有深刻历史背景的问题 ,是一个解释历史、重构价值的史学问题。孟荀的褒贬变化自唐始 ,至宋元 ,恰是在古代社会的转折、政治主流思想的变迁、古典儒学的转型和宋明“新儒学”生成之时。褒孟贬荀不在于其理论本身 ,而在于理论是否适应时代以及适应的程度和方式如何。司马迁是孟荀皆重 ,韩愈由辟佛而至崇扬孟子的卫道精神和人格 ,程朱因兴起性命之学而重孟轻荀、显孟隐荀 ,这一思想变迁历程勾勒出“新儒学”的成长轨迹。
