习凿齿著《汉晋春秋》的史学观,从《与桓秘书》中亦可窥见一斑。肯定襄阳八君子的"命世作佐"与"高尚迈德",而视魏武、孙坚等为"??常流,碌碌凡士",正说明习氏"以汉为正统,以晋继汉"的正统观。致书桓秘,具有讽谏意味。告诫桓氏,莫做悖逆晋室之事。一封书信,言史抒情,颇具文彩,又是一篇不可多得的优秀散文。
