A brief introduction is given of the principles of the membrane technology for sewage treatment,its characteristics,its application in the sewage plants abroad and the experience in the operation and the future of its development in China is presented.It is believed that the membrane technology is a promising technology in the sewage treatment,especially for the large cities with land-limited problems,as for its excellent and steady outflow water quality and reduced land occupation.
