刘半农是五四时期文学革命的倡导者之一。他主张通过翻译输入西方的诗体,推动中国新诗的发展。在诗歌翻译与创作中,刘半农践行了他的诗学观点,积极地翻译并尝试西方不同的诗体如散文诗,小诗,自由诗,十四行诗等等。由于他的翻译与借鉴,许多西方诗体为中国读者所接受。他也因此对中国新诗的建构做出了巨大贡献。
