This paper first theoretically reviews the background in which the communicative teaching approach developed,and discusses its teaching ideologies and effect in language teaching.In the course of its continuous development,the communicative teaching approach has established its own special features,teaching model,etc.The review of this approach can offer some implied suggestions for college English teaching,and help us better understand the nature of langauge teaching.
