元话语区别于对象话语,元话语对于人际关系有建构作用,元话语的使用可以消解说话人中心,表明说话人的听者意识,有助于成功和有效的语言交际。在语言交际中,说话人的语言行为"说"隐含在对象话语中,它的实施需要"适宜"的原因或条件,需要元话语介入解决"怎样说"的问题。状语从句、副词等能够用以实现元话语人际功能。
