Following the research of some grammarians,this paper primarily centers upon the following three issues.1.What are the factors leading to the factual and nonfactual readings of before clauses?2.In non stative before constructions,why can t the progressive aspect be used in before clauses?3.What is the constraint on the use of the negative polarity item ever in before clauses?
