The aspectual meaning in English can be indicated by two linguistic means: by grammatical means such as auxiliary verbs and the different inflectional forms of the English verb or by the lexical meaning of the verb and other elements of the sentence. This paper begins with a discussion of the aspectual characters indicated by the lexical meaning of the verb, and then, on this basis, makes a classification of situations presented in sentences in terms of their different aspectual characters.
