A new kind of viscosity reducer with high thermal stability and strong salt resistance has been introduced. It is sulfonate type polymer surfactant and can be used in the heavy oil production. The viscosity-reducing property of this agent before and after treatment at high temperature and its performance of emulsifying heavy oil in hard water has been studied. The effect of its molecular weight on the viscosity-reducing capacity has been discussed.
