Meng Xi was the founder of the Xinag-Shu (image-number) school of Yi Xue (I-ching learning) in the Western Han Dynasty. His interpretation of I-ching is called Gua Qi (interpreting the 64 hexagrams in the light of changes of seasons), which is an enormous ideological system integrating philosophical connotations and divination theory into one. In regard to its 'philosophical connotations', it inherits the spirit of the three Saints of Fu Xi, Wen Emperor of Zhou and Confucius; As for its theory for divination, it was applied to, then in vogue, divination to predict disaster & weird, auspicious or ominous, ed or ill luck. But, influenced by the Confucian School's Paying more attention to the classics' philosophcial connotations, scholars on I-ching of later generations tend to despise Xiang-Shu school of I and red Meng Xi as a master of divination in this paper, the author partdcularly puts forward Meng's arrangement of the hexagrams and analyzes in detail its images and numbers to manifest Meng's Yi Xue's value of philosophical connotations.
