From Historical Creation to Creating History ——-Guwangyan and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Inheritance and Development

《姑妄言》与《三国演义》有可比性。它不但同样有政治历史内容,而且包含着从《三国演义》继承下来的遗传因子,但更有巨大的变异,这就是历史的文学化,题材的生活化,是从历史演义转向演义历史。《姑妄言》对《三国演义》的正面模仿颇多,但没有创造出新的精彩,倒是它对《三国演义》桃园三结义的反学,有出蓝胜蓝之妙。

Guwangyan is comparable to Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Like the later, it depicts political and historical issues and inherits much from the book. However, greater variations are seen in Guwangyan: the literary depictions of history and closer ties of the materials to the daily life, thus accomplishing a transition from historical creation to creating history. There are many imitations of Romance of the Three Kingdoms in the book, but many failedto add luster to it. However, the satirical counter imitation of the chapter of fraternity union in the peach garden from Romance of the Three Kingdoms is impressively creative.
