At the turn of the 20th century, especially before and after the May 4 Movement, China underwent a profound change. Women's lib progressed remarkably. Some pioneers exposed and criticized the damage to women done by the old society and put forth the proposal to liberate women and the approaches to reform mar- riage system, which positively influenced the social development and civilization progress in China.
