Another Kind of Epic:The Deconstruction of Revolution Narratives and Epic Complex in An Epic of a Woman

严歌苓的小说《一个女人的史诗》消解了革命经典的宏大叙事,重大历史事件本身不再是特别表现的对象,作者关注的是它给人们的生活带来的冲击和变化,尤其注重描写女主人公田苏菲的情感,以普通女性的情感经历折射时代变迁。作者直接以"史诗"命名小说,并且将"史诗"与女性的情感史等同起来,对革命叙事的史诗性追求构成了嘲讽与解构。

Geling Yan's novel An Epic of a Woman focuses on the repercussions of momentous historical events upon ordinary people and the changes in their lives the events resulted in, and thus has the grand narrative of Revolution Classics totally dissolved.The great historcal changes are refracted through the portrayal of the love experiences of an ordinary woman named Tian Sufei who is the heroine of the novel.With the novel entitled as an Epic, the author parallels a woman's love experiences with an Epic as to mock at and deconstruct the epical propensity of Revolution Narratives.
