Interracial Re-vision of Chinese American History in Ruthanne Lum McCunn's Wooden Fish Songs

文章以华裔文学作品《木鱼歌》为例,阐明了如何通过跨国家、跨种族的视角审视华人移民的历史。只有接纳、融合不同的观点,重新审视亚美研究,让来自亚洲、美洲以及各个种族地区的学者通力合作,亚美研究才会更加圆满,并避免盲目爱国主义和狭隘的民族自大心理。

This article is basically the keynote speech by UCLA Professor King-Kok Cheung at the conference on Asian American Studies held in Shantou University in December 2006. The article uses McCunn's Wooden Fish Songs as an example to articulate how to re-vision transnational and interracial Chinese American history. It emphasizes on the importance of accepting and integrating varied views of scholars from Asia, North America, and other ethnic areas. Only so can we enrich Asian American Studies, and avoid blind patriotism and narrow nationalist psychology.
