This article discusses Yu Guangzhong's experimentalism in prose by closely reading his Cutting off the Pigtails of Prose.I critique his reflections and criticism on the vernacular literature after the May Fourth Movement,analyze his experimental prose works replete with formalist colors,and comment on his dialogues with Liang Shiqiu,and Hu Shi,so as to evaluate the significance of his ideas on prose in literary history.
