All about Language and Humanity:Li Quanli’s History of Modern Taiwan Literature

如何把握庞杂的史料以及建构自己独有的文学史观,是进行文学史书写时必须考虑及之的,李诠林著作《台湾现代文学史稿》是这方面一个有益的尝试,该书从作为文学作品载体的语言所呈现的复杂现象入手,旁及对于文学周边文化的或宏观或微观的考察,重新勾画了台湾现代文学史阶段的文学风貌。特别是对于此时期不同语言书写的区分,使这一特殊历史时空作家创作的特殊性得到了最大程度的还原。

One of the major concerns in writing literary history is how to sift through the numerous and jumbled materials and to construct one’s literary conception. Li Quanlin has made a helpful try in this regard in his History of Modern Taiwan Literature, wherein he presents the overall picture of the history by articulating the language use in different genres and by exploring the general cultural contexts in sometimes a maximal manner. His differentiation of language use in different periods helps to reconstruct the particularity of the writing in that particular interstice of time and space.
