司马曾经生活过的地区有大陆、台湾、日本、美国,是一个跨国度的范围。他的所有作品都根据于他的战争与迁徙的体验,具有跨文化的性格。对韩国的叙述是其中的一个重要部分。他对韩国的注视从抗战、内战一直持续到东西冷战时期。短篇小说《高丽狼》和韩国游记都是描述韩国的作品。《高丽狼》描写长白山原始森林中的高丽游击队与共产党、国民党的对峙关系。通过高丽狼拒绝国共双方的收编,刻画出日本帝国的"中心"崩溃后,"周边"势力的崛起。作品中引用了"阿里朗恋歌",歌词特用了韩语发音。这首歌起了区分两个不同文化的差异性的作用,反映着后殖民文本的特点。我们可以把《高丽狼》定位为后殖民文本性格的"韩人题材小说"。
Szu Ma Sang -duen's life is a transnational span as he once lived in China's Mainland,Taiwan,Japan and the United States.His oeuvre,manifesting in its cross-cultural characteristics,is based on his experience in warfares as a peripatetic.His narratives of South Korea,among others,play an important part.He has kept observing South Korea ever since the Anti-Japanese War,Korean Civil War till the Cold War,which can be demonstrated in his short story Korean Wolf and his diaries of South Korea.Korean Wolf portrays the confrontation and hostilities between Korean guerilla and the Communists as well as Kuomintang in primitive forests of Changbai Mountain.Refusing to be annexed by either the Communists or KMT,the rise of Korean guerilla represents the upsurge of peripheral forces after the 'Center' of Japanese Empire collapsed.Arirang,the classic Korean song is included in this works with the lyrics marked in Korean pronunciation.This song delimits the heterogeneity of the two different cultures with conspicuous traits of post colonial narrative.Korean Wolf,therefore,can be identified as a post-colonial narrative of 'Korean Theme Fiction.'
