2007年12月13日,由著名雕塑家吴为山先生主持并设计创作的大型主题雕塑在侵华日军南京大屠杀遇难同胞纪念馆落成。为使这组群雕发挥更大的社会教化作用,中国美术家协会、中国艺术研究院、中共江苏省委宣传部、南京:大学于2008年1月9日在南京举办了"侵华日军南京大屠杀遇难同胞纪念馆扩建工程大型主题雕塑学术研讨会"。来自全国的专家学者对该主题雕塑的立意选材、氛围营造、表现形式等给予了高度评价,并就重大历史题材与现代公共环境设计、雕塑与建筑、社会转型期当代艺术家的责任等问题进行了研讨。

On December,13th,2007,the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders,designed by famous sculptor Wu weishan,was founded.In order to exert its educating function a topic sculpture proseminar was held,with the topic'sculpture proseminar on the continuation project of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders'.It is held by Chinese Artists' Association,Chinese Art Research Institute,Jiangsu Province propagandizing Department,and Nanjing University,on January,9th ,2008.Experts from all over the world song high praise for its conception, background choosing and its manifesting way.They also discussed on the issues of the important historical artwork,modern public design,sculpture and architecture, artists' responsibility on the turn period of the society.
