摘要
在编纂词典或决定词典收入何种信息内容的时候,词典的预期使用者和他们对词典的期望是必须考虑的重要因素。作为英语学习者的主要参考书的英语学习词典当然也毫不例外。对词典预期使用者的问卷调查无疑是获取此类信息的重要途径之一。本研究就是在对词典使用者的问卷调查的基础上进行的一个量化研究,目的是为了考查英语学习词典设置文化信息的必要性以及试图找出词典使用者最喜欢的处理文化信息的方式或途径。问卷所得的数据从一个侧面说明了英语文化背景信息是大多数英语学习者的客观需求,因此在英语学习词典中设置该项内容是非常必要的;此外,问卷所得数据还说明通过例证来传递文化信息是词典使用者普遍接受的做法。这些调查发现对于在英语学习词典中如何科学合理地设置相关文化信息内容提供了一定的参考价值。
A central consideration in compiling a dictionary and in deciding what information to include is the prospective users and their expectations. English learner's dictionaries (ELDs), as the main reference book for most of the English learners are no exception. The present study, taking the form of questionnaire, has adopted a quantitative approach to examining the necessity to integrate cultural information (CI) into English Learner's dictionaries (ELDs) and trying to find the most preferred/acceptable way on the dictionary users' part, to encapsulate ELDs with CI. The analyzed research results from the raw data collected from the questionnaire undoubtedly indicate that the integration of CI into ELDs meets the need of dictionary readers and illustrative example seems the best candidate for the conveyance of CI. The findings here give some food for thought in terms of the improvement and making of ELDs.
