马致远的杂剧创作一般被分为前后两个时期,前期主要表现的是失意文人对人生悲剧的体悟,后期则主要表现的是失意文人对理想世界的探寻,其中对个体人生的关注与思考的内在精神在前后期则是一致的。这种对个体人生主要是文人命运的高度关注和他在悲剧时代对人生的独特思考与马致远个人独特的经历与思想有关。

Ma Zhiyuan's poetic dramas were created in two stages.His work in the earlier days mainly reflects the experience and feelings of frustrated men of letters about tragic life,and the later period mostly depicts the disappointed scholars' search for the ideal world.The intrinsic spirit of concerning and pondering over individual life shows no difference in the two stages.The writer believes the great concern about individual life,especially the fate of men of letters,and the unique contemplations about life in the tragic age shown in Ma Zhiyuan's works have a close relationship with Ma Zhiyuan's particular personal experience and thought.
