从历时性角度看,由于人性是大致相通和基本稳定的,因而史前和现代的艺术在本质上是一致的;从共时性角度看,虽然我们对艺术不能有一个完全精确的概念,但我们仍可寻找艺术的本质特征。

The nature of humanity is diachronically stable;therefore,modern arts and ancient arts are the same in essence.Synchronically,although we could not define an exact concept for arts,we are still able to explore the essential features of art.
