从“孝”的英译谈起

本文通过对“孝”与filial piety的时比研究,指出孝在汉语中丰富、重要的文化内涵,而filial piery恰恰不能传达。作者以文化学派翻译理论为视角,强调翻译对目的语文化的影响,认为时于负载重大文化内涵词语的翻译可依据格赖斯(Grice)会话“合作原则”进行,并建议以Shaoism,the Chinese rooted moralities来翻译“孝”,且辅以注释。

This paper shows the abundant and significant cultural connotations of the Chinese character '孝' through the contrastive analysis between '孝' and 'filial piety'. It concludes that 'filial piety' is not appropriate for the translation of '孝' in the perspective of translation theories of Culture Studies and proposes that the culturally loaded words/phrases with significant connotations should be better translated according to Grice's 'Cooperation Principles' of dialogue. At the end the author puts forward 'Shaoism, the Chinese rooted moralities' to replace 'filial piety') at the same time, the notes of '孝' should be given.
