Benxi City, located in the center of LiaoningProvince, is the State Geological Park. On April 26,2006, Benxi government decided to build the city into aState-class model city in environment protection in thecoming three or five years. The movement for creating"Green Homestead and Harmonious City" starts inBenxi, because the green color stands for life,environment protection and future development.It is very important for Benxi to become a modelcity since it used to be a polluted city by old industrialbase.Why it must do so is that the local governmentwants to make a good environment for the people andmakes the city become a sustained development city.In order to become a model city, Benxi has adoptedeight measures. The first is to control the industrialpollution. The second is to renovate the environmentwithin the town and improve its environment. The thirdis to earnestly control any new pollution sourceaccording to law. The fourth is to strictly dominatecontamination discharge. The fifth is to speed up thebasic establishments for environment protection. Thesixth is to beat back any irregular deed that destroys orpollutes the environment. The seventh is to encourageall the people to take part in the activity that Benxi triesto become a State-class model city in environmentprotection. The eighth is to strengthen the constructionfor the environment protection.
