In the past fifty years, Fuxin was famous for its coal and electricity. It totally produced 600 million tons of coal and generated electricity over 170000 million kilowatt-hours. But now it is short of its former resources. How to develop its economy in the future becomes a major subject. The agate may become a support for its economic development. This year, the city actualizes the agate industry, which will develop into a sustained industry of the city. Fuxin is now a national center of agate. Liu Guozhi, director of Shengli Agate Factory, has great feeling to agate. He said that the living standard of people has been greatly improved and they would pursue esthetical goods. Therefore the agate carving may meet the need of them and agate industry may develop well because it has flourishing market. Besides, the agate goods are not only popular in China but also in other countries. At present, there are more than 30000 persons in about 5000 households of agate industry in Fuxin. The saleroom occupies nearly half of the national total.
