Villages in the Tang Dynasty

本文主要依据日本人圆仁《入唐求法巡礼行记》的记载 ,对唐代农村名称、类型、密度和规模进行研究。唐代村落主要以“村”、“店”、“庄”三字命名。根据其功能、地理位置、经济特征等不同的标准 ,唐代村落可分为多种类型。唐代两村之间的距离在 2 7公里左右或大于 2 7公里 ,村落的规模一般在三四十户人家以下。

This paper studies the appellation、type、density and scale of villages in the Tang Dynasty according to 'travel notes in Tang Dynasty for learning Buddhism' by Yuanren. Villages in the Tang Dynasty were named after 'village'、'shop'、'Manor'. They were divided into many types according to different standards. In the Tang dynasty distance between two villages was 27KM or over 27KM.There were 30-40 households in one village.
