Tang Jifu's series of novels on institutions of higher learning are the crucial part of his literary writings over the years. By virtue of his sad and compassionate feelings, Tang shows, in these novels, much solicitude for the living circumstance of college intellectuals and reveals penetratingly their nomenon contradictions and split personality. This paper mainly analyzes the spiritual agony and embarrassed choice confronted by intellectuals and their spiritual tragedy of alienation and degeneration during the period of social transformation.
