Cultural examination of Chinese modern science education

中国近代科学教育产生于洋务运动时期的新式学堂。在中国近代科学教育产生和发展过程中,传统文化始终发挥着重要作用。一方面,中国古代科学教育传统为近代科学教育的产生奠定了文化基础;另一方面,中国近代实施科学教育引发的激烈论争及影响,传统的治学方式对近代教育中科学精神的影响等,又透视出传统文化对近代科学教育的阻碍作用。

Chinese modern science education came into being in new schoolrooms during the period of 'Learning Advanced Foreign Affairs Movement'. During the process of its emergence and development, traditional culture has been constantly playing a very important role in China. On one hand, the science education tradition in ancient China has laid the cultural basis for the emergence of modern science education; on the other hand, the hot disputes and influences resulting from the implementation of the science education in modern times, as well as the traditional teaching style's impact on scientific spirit of modern education reveal the obstructing function of the traditional culture to modern science education.
