EUPHEMISM IN ENGLISH

委婉语是人类语言使用过程中的一种普遍现象,在不同的语言群体和不同的社会层次都有一些特定的方法来进行委婉表达。作为一种常见的语言现象,委婉语早就引起了人们的注意和重视。但很长时间以来人们对委婉语的研究范围主要限于词汇层次上。本文从社会学角度和心理学角度对委婉语加以分析,并对英语中常见的委婉语进行了归纳。

Euphemism is a common phenomenon of human languge. People with different social status in different language groups use different ways to express euphemism. But for many years research into it was only limited on the lexicon level. Compared with former researches, this paper analyses euphemism from social and psychological aspect, and based on this, it also divides those often-used euphemisms into different groups according to their usage.
