王士禛曾以擅词著称。其词抒写心音，情兼哀艳，萦怀故 国之思，歌咏男女艳情，后者更是对“词为艳科”的复归，成为有别于诗的显著特色。艺术 上，小令、中调、长调，或婉约，或豪放，不拘一格，既破除二者壁垒和对立，又融合二种 风格和艺术精神，为清词昭示一条改造传统的发展之路。

Wang Shizhen is known for his gift in creating Ci.His Ci utters the voice of his heart.The themes ar e not restricted to showing his patriotic love and sorrow for his country,but ex press the love between men and women in a flowery style.The latter indicates a r evival of the saying that 'Ci is specially for love',which has become an outstanding feature different from poetry.In style,he uses different tunes alternatively,sometimes gentle,sometimes wild,never sticking to one single form of expression.In this way not only can he break the barrier and contradict ion between the two forms,but instead,he can mix the two together.Wang has made great contributions for Qing Ci to reform from the traditional way of developmen t.
