The breaking out of the Opium War was by no means an accident,for both the internal and external situations of the Jiaqing and Daoguang reigns of the Qing Dynasty foretold the crisis.Faced with the coming of the crisis,the Chinese scholar officials were worried about the future of the country and started to search for the way of salvation.Their constant efforts again displayed the Confucian spirit of “taking the national destiny as their own responsibility”.
