Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy played an important role in the treatment of rectal cancer in order to improve sphincter preservation,decrease relapse and prolong survival.This article reviewed the development and current status of neoadjuvant therapy for rectal cancer.We compared neoadjuvant radiation,neoadjuvant chemoradiation with surgery alone and adjuvant therapy.
