The historical background of the birth of the 'Westernization' movement was elaborted.It pointed out that although the 'Westernization' movement didn't succeed finally,it had some achievements.The movement created conditions for China's economic and military modernization,it established a precedent for modern education,it objectively promoted the growth of modern national consciousness of the Chinese people.
