The Causes of "Cheap Silver and Expensive Copper Coins" in Early Qing Dynasty

清前期的“银贱钱贵”现象的形成原因是多方面的。进口铜料减少对铸钱造成了一定的影响,但清廷采取的应对措施在相当程度上缓解了这种影响,用传统的“钱荒”说来解释该现象是不恰当的。铜料紧张和外国白银的大量流入共同造成了“银贱钱贵”现象的产生。

The phenomenon of "cheap silver and expensive copper coins " in early Qing Dynasty was caused by many factors.Decreased import of copper had some effects,which were,however,mitigated by government measures.The accepted "lack of cash" explanation is not always convincing. This phenomenon was caused by the combined factors of lack of copper and influx of silver from abroad.
